Spring Showcase spotlights what's hot in Porter County housing market

For Gary Green, president-elect of the Porter County Builders Association and chairman of the PCBA Spring 2008 Showcase of Homes, the county's builders have definitely taken this statement to heart. With three dozen homes and neighborhoods on display, the annual spring tour of homes is the largest in the association's history.

"There's everything from soup to nuts," said Green, who is also president of Wagner Homes of Valparaiso, one of the builders whose homes are being spotlighted during the showcase.

"There are a tremendous variety of lifestyle choices available in the homes," he added. "This showcase will also be in a great time of year. Everything will be green and the weather will be perfect."

The 2008 Spring Showcase runs two consecutive weekends – from noon to 5 p.m. April 26 & 27, and May 3 & 4. A scattered site showcase, this tour is free and allows visitors to see homes and neighborhoods in the order of their choosing.

Whatever style of home you desire, you'll find it among the entries in the Spring Showcase. Homes range from less than $200,000 to nearly $1 million with everything from affordable single-family homes and villas to estates in gated communities. In addition, visitors can view the residential communities that offer distinctive lifestyles in the Porter County area.

"These homes are indicative of the market we have now, but as the PCBA, it was also our goal to show the wonderful work our builders do and the kinds of homes they build," Green said. "Our builder participants recognize that buyers are doing their research, often online. We find that people are specifically interested in seeing all the products available to them."

And he added, "They shop and compare. What better way to do that than with a showcase of homes?"

Builder members of the PCBA who are participating in the Spring 2008 Showcase include Aldred Builders; The Andjelich Group; Bucher Construction; Charlson Custom Homes; Christopher Homes; Delgado Builders; DeCesaris Builders; The Given Group; Gorgei & Son; MK & I; New Crown Development; Northwest Indiana Home Builders; NWI Vision Homes; Pickering Homes; Schneider Builders, Inc; Shinn Builders; Snemis Homes; Sommers Construction; Summit Homebuilders; Sunshine Homes; Wagner Homes; and Wheeler-Bowers Builders.

The array of homes can be viewed at a variety of subdivisions, including Dogwood Estates in Chesterton; Duck Creek Estates in Hobart; Portage's Boardwalk, Hidden Waters and The Trails; Mineral Springs Villas in Porter; and Valparaiso's Beauty Creek, Brigata Hills, Harrison West; Pepper Creek Manor, Sagamore, Tower Meadows, Troon, Turtle Run and Tuscany.

In addition, developers/builders are showcasing home sites available in their new communities during this event. Those neighborhoods include Valparaiso's Bella Vista (Bella Real Estate), Brigata Hills, Mystic Springs and Turtle Run (both TEC Construction); Sandstone Pointe in Kouts (Pleasant Township Development) and the Village in Burns Harbor (Cliff Fleming, developer).

"This kind of showcase is a huge advantage for the public and the builders," Green said. "There's a market for homes and the Porter County builders have responded to the market's needs."

"We believe Porter County has a strong, stable housing market," Green said. "There is tremendous value here."

So mark your calendars and make this showcase of homes part of your weekend's must-do's.
